Unity candle for an outdoor wedding?

My fiance and I are getting married May 26, 2007. We’ll be married in a gorgeous white gazebo outside. We’d really like to light a unity candle in our ceremony but I’m afraid that being outside the candles will blow out. Any suggestions? I have found battery operated LED lights but I’m not sure we could turn them on without being obvious. Or would that matter? I have also thought of oil candles. Will those get blown out by wind or does the oil make it harder for that to happen? I don’t have a massive budget so I’d like to make sure of what I want to buy now so that I don’t spend too much money. Thanks for all your help!

I would get candles that have hurricane globes around them. This will ensure they will not blow out during the ceremony.

I have two alternative ideas for you. One pricey, one cheap.

The pricey one is to release a dove instead of the unity candle. I know it is not the same as the symbolism of lighting two candles to the one unity candle.

The cheap one is you could release one white balloon.

    Good luck!

at my cousins wedding the did the same unity candle thing outdoors in a white gazebo and even though there wasn’t alot of wind it blew out.
i really like the idea of a unity candle so i definetly dont change your mind about having one they have a beautiful symbolism. i think you sould use one of those globe things, but i think the light would be too obvious.
    congratulations!

we had a white candle in a glass jar with a beautiful poem on the outside that we got from party city. our wedding was outdoors in a rose garden and we didn’t have any problems out here in san diego.

Make some type of arrangement that will help block the wind, and place the candle you will light together in some type of glass vase. It wouldn’t hurt to put some type of flammable material such as lighter fluid (very little) on the wick. Hope this helps

You know what? You have enough to worry about, skip the candle, and find something that you feel is symbolic, but won’t be affected by the weather.

I just attended a wedding where the couple combined 2 small bottles of sand (from each hometown) into a gorgeous glass vase with a lid. It was very touching, and the breeze didn’t matter a bit.

You could use hurricane globes to protect the candles from any breeze. They also add an elegance. If you don’t care for hurricanes, I’m sure you can find some other globe to house you candles. This is done alot of times for a beach wedding
