Q&A: What to bring on a picnic?

Question from BigDS: What to bring on a picnic?
I plan to bring my girlfriend on a picnic this weekend. It will be my first so I need some help and ideas.
It is winter, so it will be chilly (we don’t mind). So far, I have sparkling cider, two blankets (so we can lay down and stare at the sky while staying warm…), candles. I’m going to bring my multi-tool to carve our initials in a tree.
What else? Maybe something to keep us entertained. Also, I was wondering what dishes would work well? I’m thinking about bringing a thermos with soup. But the question is, what soup? Any ideas are welcome :)

Answer by AussieAnswerer
You could bring a frisbee and have some fun before and/or after. When you say that you are bring candles are they real candles or flameless battery-powered ones? Be careful about bringing real ones if that’s what you’re doing because that could mess up your day if something catches on fire, but you know the conditions, so if you think it’s right to bring candles you can.

You could bring a salad that you can purchase in bags at the supermarket.

You could also bring some crackers with some dips.

If you are wanting to bring soup, it’s probably good if you just buy canned soup from the supermarket.

Bring your phone or camera to take photos!

That’s all I can think of right now, just make sure to bring enough food, but not too much!

You could bake that always goes over well.

Last year I made spa kits for the women in my family. Go to most craft stores carry soap and candle making supplies and directions/books with lots of ideas. Then just add in a loofah and a small lotion and you are good :)

You could also make purses, aprons, and such if you can sew. If you make the guys aprons for the grill buy special paper that you can use to make your own iron on sayings to personalize them. You could also give them something for the grill to go with them.

Answer by Annie Joy
Find small glass containers. Usually dollar stores have these. Add candle and put little artificial flowers around. You can use X-mas flowers or different colors. You can buy battery operated candles too!
Again find glass containers. Look for immersable lights. Buy clear or colored marbles. Add marbles to container halfway, add the light then the rest of the marbles. Makes a pretty light. I keep mine in the bathroom to help guests find their way.
You could buy 8-10 inch glass vases. Put x-mas flowers or colored flowers. Put colored marbles or clear at the bottom.

I always make presents. One time I sewed a teddy bear for my brother. I make cards and stuff too. One year I made a puzzle. If you are from a certain culture then you could research things that your culture does as a special tradition on Christmas or in December and throw it together for your family.

Answer by Jenny Lynne
A florist or if you have a good friend or relative who is “talented” ask them to do it for you.

Answer by joinme4coffee
First check with your venue. They might have insurance restrictions on candles. If they give you the green light, you would hire a florist. They will do things that don’t involve flowers.

Answer by Brisbane Humanist Celebrant
Not hard to DIY – and you’ll save a bundle. Just buy some flat mirrors to act as a base for the candles and to reflect the light, lay the mirrors down in the center of the tables, arranging some different height pillar candles in the middle and tea-lights round the edge of the mirror, scatter a few rose petals in between and you’re done.

Experiment with one to work out exactly how you want to do it, take a photo, then ask a good friend to set them up on the tables using the photo as a guide.

If the venue is not keen on naked flames, ask about hurricanes, or use LED battery-operated candles.

Answer by Woods
Much better to do it yourself.

Find an idea you like, or can work from:

http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=Avig3iK1phQeU5CvSSdDUqSbvZx4?p=candle+centerpieces&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-701

Ask a couple of your good friends or your mom’s good friends to help set them up the day of the wedding.

Answer by Kelly
A florist can still do this. Or, you could learn to DIY, trial & error.

Also, check with your venue to be sure they allow candles, many do not due to fire codes and hazards.

a couple movies or a gift certificate to a movie place, popcorn, massage oils, pizza gift certificate or another take out place, candy, a blanket to snuggle under, candles, smelly goods for the house altogether, maybe one of those flameless candles since they have kids.

Answer by I Love Isis
One of the best gifts I got was my wedding gift. We got a basket that had a gift card to Blockbuster, some candy, and some microwave popcorn. You could do that and offer a night of babysitting so they can put their gift to good use.

Answer by Sarahz
get a bottle of wine (hopefully they BOTH drink wine otherwise pick up a big 40oz bottle of beer for him and stick that in there also)
a gift card for dinner put someplace

Any good ideas for a summer, outdoor wedding?

Question from ARMYwife<3: Any good ideas for a summer, outdoor wedding?
It will be outside in the evening & the reception will be at night. I don’t really have a theme as of right now nor do I have any colors picked out. I want lots of lighting & I want glittery, sparkly & shiny decor. I was thinking either an evening garden them or a “cool” (as in temperature) theme with cool colors like ice blue, white, silver, etc.

Any ideas for decoration, colors, themes, flowers, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Answer by nataliexoxo
sorry i’m really tired so i’m not thinking as creativly as i usually do…

if you go to save-on-crafts.com they have an how to for crystalized branches. if you do those and have them as your centerpieces… they will look great with those mini led lights that are battery operated, and you can use votive candles on the table to catch more sparkle.
you can put the branches in large vases and fill the base with flat marbles and rocks covered in glitter (just use craft glue and roll them in glitter)

i like your idea of “cool” you can do a cool romance theme… with your colors.

i would get organza bags in shades of blue and fill them with silver wrapped kisses.
try shopping ebay (seller id ideabus) for the lowest prices on organza bags.

oh depending on when you wedding is.. ie is it 09?
you can pick up christmas garland in silver and blue shades to swag on your branches and to swag on tables…
plus the day after xmas it’s all 50-% off

Answer by Honey882
Your cool theme sounds nice, romantic and the colours that you mention will be a head turner :)

Answer by someoneunforgettable
Outside weddings are always wonderful, but make SURE you have a back-up area set up incase of bad weather conditions. I’ve been to 20+ weddings and seen a few disasters because they were unprepared.

Answer by Kjersti G
I’m doing the same. I will suggest to you abdoning the “Theme” idea as wedding should be about you two and not weather you can find a bunch of asian favors or whatever. I DO suggest a color scheme though. This way everything blends well and nothing clashes.

I think chineese paper lanterns would look great outdoors, but a lot of people use those. And theres nothing wrong with Hurricanes! They flicker and kinda sparle.

What would you suggest we use?

Question from shortcake0783: What would you suggest we use?
My brothers is getting married in September. I am coordinating the decorating of the ceremony and reception. It is an outside wedding. The bride wants a path of candles that leads from the arch to the alter. We have some vases that we are putting candles in.

My question is What type of candle should I use? I want one that is going to give off the most light. I have checked into pillar candles but they are expensive. I was thinking of floating candles.

What do yall suggest?

Best answer:

Answer by Miss Magen
Floating candles would be very elegant and pretty in the vases. I think it’s an excellent idea.

Answer by Kit
I suggest the flicker led candles, no worries of them blowing out.

Answer by miss_nikki
It’s in my experience that floating candles don’t give off very much light. I think your best option is to go with votives. They’re fairly inexpensive and they give off quite a bit of light. Of course I don’t have any idea what the vases look like so it’s possible the votive might look a little weird since it is smaller.

Answer by MahoneyMom
I don’t know how long the ceremony is, but I imagine that you want the candles to last till they walk back down the isle. Right? Have you looked at tapers or battery operated clip on lights?

Check out the links below. Good Luck.

Answer by Wedding Planner and B2B!
floating would be very pretty but will not give off a lot of light. If you like the idea go with the floating candles and also use white xmas lights in the area for extra light and twinkle

Answer by Lora S
Take your vase with you to a reputable candle shop or wedding shop that deals with candles…and ask them. They can tell you which candles burn brightest, longest…you name it. Then you will be sure you have exactly what you need.

Is there such a thing as a chandelier that doesn’t need a electric hook-up? Portable!?

Question from bede3315: Is there such a thing as a chandelier that doesn’t need a electric hook-up? Portable!?
I want to hang a chandelier of some sort over my bed. Nothing huge, just cute! I am renting an apartment so I obviously can’t have a wire put in. Is there such a thing as a portable chandelier that will light itself and be easy to install on a ceiling???

Best answer:

Answer by arizonakal
If you find a small chandelier that you like you can have a cord with a plug on the end put on it then you can just hang it from the ceiling with a strong hook and run the cord straight across the ceiling and down the wall to an outlet.

Answer by Karen L
Best thing to do is get one that plugs in, but has, or you add, a cord that goes to a wall plug. Ikea sells an extension cord with a switch and dimmer in it, called Dimma. You can actually use any hanging lamp and wire a plug onto it or a longer wire that can reach down to a wall plug. You can get all the stuff to do that, and advice on how to do it, at any building supply place.

Answer by saaanen
All you need is the chandelier you choose, a plant hook with a molly attached, and a “swag” kit, from any hardware store. $ 15.00 tops. Th directions are on the packaging of the swag kit.

Tips on throwing a last minute New Years Eve party!?

Question from Hello: Tips on throwing a last minute New Years Eve party!?
On the actual New Years Eve day just a few of my friends and I got a hotel and will be out of town so we thought we would throw a party tomorrow and invite all of our friends we won’t be able to see on saturday. It started as just a few close friends to play some drinking games but it’s become a pretty big invite list. So basically I wasn’t planning on a real party so I need some tips on how to throw it together fairly quickly.

Answer by Natasha
Plan a surprise. Have one thing at your party, like a signature drink or a goody bag, that none of your friends know about – this extra element makes a party more memorable.

2. Pick a theme. Single colors are really hot this year. Pick a color family and buy all of your decorations – plates, napkins, and drinks (and maybe even your clothes) – in different shades.

3. Have a photographer. Get a parent or sibling to take pics for you so you don’t have to worry about it. At the end of the night, you’ll be sure to have pics of everyone and you can post them online, just like the paparazzi do!

4. Make a video. Have everyone talk to the camera when they walk in or when they leave (they’ll feel like stars), and then post it on Youtube, so everyone can remember the party (and experience the moments they might have missed.)

5. Serve finger foods. Your guests should never have anything other than their plates and napkisn in their hands, so only serve food that they can pick up and eat without making a mess. Bonus: bite sized foods, like cocktail weiners, and buffalo wings, usually come prepackaged so you won’t have to do any cooking.

6. Be careful with space. You want to make sure you have enough people over to fill your living room or back yard, but you don’t want people to feel crowded. Measure the size (square footage– the length times the width) of your room, and divide by 9. That’s the number of people you should have over. And remember, less is more. The best parties feel small, and a little exlclusive.

7. Get a photo booth. You can rent these, or vintage arcade games, online, and have a service deliver them to your house (only do this if you can clear out space in your garage – mom and dad won’t want these in the house!) for instant fun and memories.

8. Make people move around. Don’t put any chairs in the room, and put the food and drinks on opposite sides of the space. This way people can’t stand in one spot all night, and will mix and mingle. If you want people to dance, make sure there’s enough clear space, blast the music, and get your best friends to “break” in the dance floor. Everyone else will follow!

9. Get great lighting. Dim the lights and put out candles. For a fool-proof (and mess-proof) version, get battery operated candles that still give off the same kind of light, but won’t burn your guests or get wax all over the place.

10. Make DIY centerpieces. Buy mason jars from any craft or hardware store, and fill them with fruit (something cool and big like lemons, pomegranates, or oranges), colored sand, or ev

You can make a few simple decorations and hang in separate areas instead of randomly, photo collage of you and your friends/family, a memo board to hang in your study area, magazine collage with your interests, hobbies/sports, print your fav flowers off the net and hang together in matching 5×7 frames or make them into mini canvases by wrapping each pic around cardboard and glue to the back.

Be inventive. I know a man who worked at a Boston food company when the great blackout of ’65 occurred. They were worried that they would lose all the frozen food. So several men manhandled a VW bug through the aisles of the warehouse to the loading dock and used its battery and lights while they moved all the perishable food into refrigerated truck trailers.

Always keep flashlights, candles and a battery operated radio handy to track the situation and make the best of it. Place the candles in a dish for protection; it’s a bad time to report a fire. Learn an instrument (acoustic guitar?) so you can entertain yourself until the lights are restored. Avoid opening the refrigerator and the food will remain cool. Keep your cool.

I’m going on the Carnival Glory on 10-25-08, and I’v never been on a cruise before. What should I bring?

Question from Ashley Fitspatrick: I’m going on the Carnival Glory on 10-25-08, and I’v never been on a cruise before. What should I bring?
What should I bring? How much money should I bring? What should I pack? I want to know everything as to what i’ll need for my first cruise. Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by Penny B
Ok Ashley… this is Penny……

1. money, we take 100 per port, but we don’t buy much.. so if you plan on a lot of shopping 2-300 per port. at least 250 pp for the casino,

2. clothes – 3 swim suits, 4 shorts, 2 pants, 4 sun tops, 2 dress tops, 2 formal gowns, 3 pr shoes, black for dress, sandles for on board, and tennis shoes or sport shoes for ports.

3. for him…4 pr shorts, 1 pr jeans, 4 sleeveless shirts, 2 polo shirts, suit, dress shoes, walking shoes, sandles.

4. don’t forget the night clothes gowns, pj’s, etc.

5. cosmetics. I would take my own shampoo and conditioner because they don’t have conditioner and the shampoo will dry your hair out. make up, curling iron, deoderents, etc.

6. Put extra cash in envelopes for tiping before you leave 20 in each, with small bills so you can adjust accordingly. take about 20 in 1$ bills for tipping room service, and bar tenders.

7. bring a small container of laundry soap and put fabric softner sheets in all suit cases so you can do laundry mid week.

8. a power strip to plug cell phone, camera, laptop, etc in

9. a glade flameless candle to add romance and freshen the air in the cabin.

10. mesh laundry bags put in closet or if enough room, just somewhere in cabin.

11. if you have a special pillow,, bring that.

12. if you drink soda (pepsi) bring your own, but get the plastic bottles and place in a suitcase and send with checked luggage. I usually take 12 pepsi 12oz bottles, and 6 bottles of water to have in the cabin to take meds with, etc. and for port days.

13. have fun

see ya on board.

Ashley, Note that I did say FLAMELESS CANDLE, IT IS A ROOM AIR FRESHNER THAT RUNS ON A BATTERY, AND LOOKS LIKE A FLICKERING CANDLE.

I have to have a special pillow. due to headaches and all. i even have to have a bed rest so I can sleep with my head elevated.

if the other poster would have read throughly he would have seen IF on some of the things an the word Flameless. But he did not see that.

As for the tips, room service is NOT included in the pre paid tips. and some people prefer to tip anyone who brings them a drink. but that is your decission. Ít is not a law that you have to tip these people. it is just a suggestion.

We can discuss on the board anything else you may want to know. JUST ASK. all of us on the board, or most of us are seasoned cruisers, and we can give you tips, etc.

Answer by dangerouspudding
first off DO NOT bring candles! these are a NO NO! (open flame on a ship is bad)
a cruise is really no different than any other vacation except that the food is included. You need comfy clothes, bathing suits, and nice clothes for dinner.

You are only charged for booze, salon and spa services, and shopping. You can very easily spend nothing and still have a great time. I usually bring 100$ per port to do an excursion.

Carnival has fantastic bedding and comfy down pillows. Leave yours at home and save the room in your luggage.

Tips for everyone but the matrie d are all added onto your room’s sign and sail account. you dont need to bring extra cash for tipping (unless you want to)

Answer by christine
Pack as though you are going to a Caribbean island shorts tanks, vbathing suits). However, you also need to have some nice dressier clothes for dinner. You can’t use cash onboard, so you need to have a credit card if possible. We spend a fair bit of money when we are in ports when we cruise, but it really depends on where you are going and what you want to do once you’re there. For example, in Key West we went parasailing, out for lunch and souvenir shopping. It cost us about 250.00. THe next day we went to Cozumel and only spent 40.00 for the day as we took a $ 6 taxi into town and had a couple drinks looked around and that was it.

First off, don’t make it a surprise party. At 80 she might not like that too much.

But you could put pictures of her blown up to poster size all over the walls as her as a girl and growing up.

You could play a slide show on a screen with videos and images of her on it.

What is her favorite color? That is your theme color to use.

Put a guest book out for people to sign and beautiful flower centerpeices (her favorite flowers).

Just find out what her favorites are and that will give you ideas.

First of all Happy Birday she must be loved alot. 250 people.
I suggest you chose a few colors and use them for everything, cake baloons tablecloths and flowers. Pink and Orange, Lavender and White or Pink and Green. Decorate a few key areas simply remember the outside front entry and then just a few touches throughout the space leaving room for people and their things. Provide plenty of seating and enjoy.

I have an excellent idea for this..my daughter did it at her wedding..go to the dollar store, or ikea, and get some wood frames..use strong tape and tape three of them together, but leave one side open, so they can stand up like a screen..get a bunch of photos with this woman in them from young to older age..print these photos on velum (available at craft stores) and place inside frames..velum is like a plastic…so get the flameless tea light candles (battery operated) and wrap the frames around..the light from the candles show through the pics but still being able to see the pictures..this works best with black and white photos..really cool and people will go around table to table to look at all the different pictures so will mingle with everyone whether they know each other or not..get the pics from all different persons..a bit of work but looks great and is a nice thing to take home from the party.
You can place little plastic glasses with wrapped chocolates in them on the table, or on plates..nice treat and all wrapped so is sanitary for all…(and cheap)

Legit work at home program?

Question from Brittney: Legit work at home program?
I am fixing to have a baby and we could really use the extra money, but I’m planning on staying home with my son. I’ve been trying to find a job that I can do at home, but nothing seems real out there. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good, legitimate work out there that I could do from home.

I have been researching work at home ops for so many years and have come across so many scams. However I finally found one that doesn’t charge a dime and you just do what you would if you were going to work in a company away from home but it’s all from home on your own computer. I wish I had found this years sooner. Go to Odesk.com

Answer by Landlord
It is hard to make a suggestion not knowing what degree you have, what your career skills are, etc.

You could employ yourself, start a consulting firm for whatever it is that you do, and work from home via Skype.

We used round mirrors with a stem of hydrangeas placed in the middle and blue acrylic “diamonds” scattered around the mirror and table.

Answer by pppbbblllttt
How about flameless pillar candles? The are battery operated and “flicker” like regular candles. you can also do rock gardens, and I had a friend who filled jars with sand and seashells.

Answer by coloradosnoflake2
how about paper lanterns? You can order them in different sizes and almost any color and they are very inexpensive. You can fill them with battery operated string lights or battery operated tealights (very cheap). It will give you candle-like lighting without the candle/flame. You can also add simple decorations to them like ribbon.
You could still do candle centerpieces and get flameless candles. You can get nice realistic looking ones at craft stores. Garden Ridge has good ones. (you can google them and order off the net if there isn’t one near you)

you could also do “photo” centerpieces, like a standing collage of different sized frames on a mirror that have different pics of you and the groom. You can also get a photo cube for pics on all sides and decorate it up

Answer by casper4
If you like the idea of candles, try frosted votives or frosted lanterns with flickering electric tea lights in them. It gives the illusion of a real flame.

You could also use some scattered rose petals and maybe flat river rocks.

Bowls or vases of fresh fruit or vegetables – cranberries, oranges or apples, pears, grapes, peppers, pumpkins/gourds, strawberries or cherries, blueberries, etc. Uncooked, dry split peas and unpopped popcorn kernels actually look really cute as well.

You could do mason jars with a single flower stem in them – maybe daisies or gerbera daises for a very country-fied look. Or potted plants.

Framed photos of yourselves, family members or your pets (maybe in little outfits or Photoshopped in front of funny backgrounds) – and they could double as table numbers.

Bottles of wine

Answer by misshammy
I’m not sure your colors, but what about bowls filled with fruit? Maybe even in water? Such things like lemons, apples, strawberries…??
You can slice em up or keep them whole…
Or… I saw this on Martha Stewart’s website… Getting fishbowls and putting rock candy in them… They are fun, cute, and colorful!!
You can put up double sided frames with photos of you and your fiancee throughout your relationship… Or even get those carosel frames….
You can do books… Stack books up in unique ways… And make them “love” books, or something between the 2 of you… It’s unique and different…
Hope I helped some!!

Answer by Brittany C
We aren’t allowed to have candles either, so what we are doing is putting a treats in the middle on tiers. Like one of those cookie holders that tier down. We are going to have nice cookies, cupcakes, fours, eclairs, and different sweets on them. But we are having a dessert reception, so it makes sense…

How about these options:

(any vase would work, you could even do a set of three in different sizes)

(gives them something to eat as well, and it look pretty)

Or you could always look into using LED candles (flameless) instead of actual candles

if its not painted, paint it. you could paint three walls one color, then an accent wall if you want.
then decorate it. you could have cork boards with pictures of you and your friends.
then hang up wall decor. like framed pictures and paintings, but also like giant wooden peace signs painted whatever color you want. or the letters of your name or initials over your bed frame.
good luck.

Answer by Lisa W
The previous poster is correct that college students love candles. Unfortunately, most dorms don’t allow them–understandably. Have you looked into Scentsy? College students love Scentsy candles because they are wickless and flameless. It’s a great business to start up with.

Good luck!

christmas decoration?

Question from Frank R: christmas decoration?
I hate decorating for Xmas. A few years ago I nearly killed myself while on a ladder and now I only decorate the lowest eaves of my house with lights. Any suggestions on decorating without climbing 30 feet high to my roof?

Best answer:

Answer by victoria
If you don’t have a pet, get tinsel to decorate walls, figures and banisters. Pets could die from it, so be careful. Get Christmas ribbons and streamers, and maybe go to WalMart or something to pick out some ornaments from the seasonal section. It’ll be easy!

Answer by ruth4526
If you have lights on the lower eaves of the house, it should be enough lights. You could get some lawn decorations or window deco. Get some lights those candycane type to line your sidewalk if you have a walk. It you have any out door bushes or small trees, put some bulbs on them they don’t have to be electric. That should be plenty.

Answer by go_girl_68
Have about asking for help, ask someone to decorate the high spots

Answer by Wayne
I always have enjoyed decorating the outside of my home for the holidays. I think the best bet is to do all white lights. If you just do the bushes and maybe the walkway you will be extremely happy. I always try to stay away from those light up figurines and blow-ups. If you use wreaths and materials of the same, mix them with the lights. This will create a great day and night look.

Answer by Pat C
Just do your windows, porch and door. You might also do something down your walkway. You say you hate decorating for Christmas. Look at this site and think what those men must feel like after they are finished,….http://www.uglychristmaslights.com

Answer by Amanda B
For the second floor of a home (or higher), what about placing battery operated candles on the inside of each window. The candles give a home a classy look from the outside. And the only thing you would have to climb is the stairs to leading to the second floor!

Budget: Centerpieces and invitations. Please help!!!!?

Question from LFM: Budget: Centerpieces and invitations. Please help!!!!?
I really would appreciate everyone’s ideas on this

1. Please give me centerpiece ideas that cost next to nothing (less than $ 2 each; nothing with candles)

2. Anyone know any good websites to order invitations that cost no more than 50cents each? No RSVP cards needed.

Thank you very very much :)

Best answer:

Answer by Megs
You don’t have to have a centerpiece. A lot of people are opting to do away with them because they tend to be a lot of money.

You could get some photos of you and your fiance and frame them, put them in the center of the tables with flower peddles around them. You could also use photos of other married couples in your family, or of memorys of you and your families ect.

Answer by Jessica
$ 2 per centerpiece is not a whole lot, so I can’t come up with much. If something dawns on me, I’ll let you know.

Rather than ordering invitations, you can print them yourself. Staples has a bunch and they’re not too expensive! It’s what we’re planning on doing.

Answer by tinktink20
Go to the clearance section of the craft store and see what you can find. I found flowers ($ 8 for 20 tables worth) that I am putting in little vases with a bow tied around and some fish gravel in them. Or you could get fish bowls with a fish in them. Or you could make your favors your centerpieces somehow.
I did my invitations myself….well, I bought the kits and then printed them off myself. I paid $ 80 for 300 invitations.

Answer by jennafer719
I am trying to find something cheap too. The best idea I could think of for centerpieces are to go buy some seeds and grow my own flowers and use those, as for invitations we are making our own.

Answer by sarenaemily
I made my own invitations. I designed them in MS Word and then took them to get printed on fancy paper. You can get them printed at Staples on cardstock or cover paper for cheap. I made a sort of petal-like inner envelope out of colored printer paper, just traced them, cut and folded them. The envelopes were the most expensive thing! I also made my own RSVP cards, and cut corners by not including stamps on the RSVP envelopes. But, you already said you didn’t need them anyway.

Check out Staples or Office Max or FedEx Kinkos. You can save lots of money by just doing it yourself.

Also, I had a friend who made their invitations by printing a picture of themselves (the two of them) on a postcard with all the info. Pretty sure those were cheap too, but they looked nice, got all the info across, and it was cute because it was a pic of the two of them.

Check Craigslist for centerpieces. People have things left over from their weddings that they don’t know what to do with so they sell them for cheap. If you can find something that matches your colors, then you’re good to go.

Good luck!

Answer by Sunny
for my wedding we did fake flowers in vases. we bought the vases from the dollar store, so they were only $ 1 each, then we bought some cheap fake flowers and put them in the vases. you can find nice looking fake flowers at walmart, kmart, or dollar stores.
http://www.theflowerpot.com/images/product/Mat-15.jpg

Answer by itsalwaysthequietone
Man, $ 2 is tough. I’ve racked my brain. One thing I thought of is a nature-themed centerpiece, where you go and collect strips of bark, twigs, leaves, etc. yourself. Then maybe all you’d have to buy is something to display it in or on, and a hot glue gun. One of those DIY projects. But if it were me, I think I’d do nothing. Even the picture frame idea (which is really cute, we’re doing that as well) but even at target, the simple black picture frames were $ 5 for a 4×6.

Answer by piper07
I’m thinking about making centerpieces out of empty wine bottles (ones that have a pretty label!) with a single flower in each one. You could post on craigslist and probably get the bottles for free since people just throw them out anyway. My grocery store sells bouquets of flowers like carnations or daisies for around $ 3, or Walmart has 6 roses for $ 10.

Answer by iloveweddings
Hi.

Your budget is very tight….but it can be done! You need to look around to see what is available to you.

First, with the invitations. There is no place to order on the internet for .50 each. You might want to check Ebay, but even then, you are going to have to pay for shipping.

Here are a couple of options:

~ You can buy plain cardstock with envelopes in a package at craft stores like Michaels. I think there are about 15 in a package for about $ 5. These will be very plain. You will need to bring them home and try to format them yourself on your computer.

~ OR….buy some “invitation paper” like what is pictured on this link. I have seen lots of different types of invitation paper (like the one with the rose petals) at Walmart. Again, you will need to format your own invitation.

Search on Google for “wedding invitation wording.” There are lots of examples.

Here is the link:

http://www.invitationpaper.com/parties.html

For your centerpieces. Again, this is very hard, but it can be done! Are you against candles, or does your venue prohibit candles?

~ Go to a Dollar Tree (or any dollar store) and get a bud vase $ 1/each. Go to Walmart and get some flowers. You can buy roses for $ 10/dozen at Walmart. Use 1 rose and some greens (also available at Walmart) in each vase.

~ A cute craft project using recycled jars is here:

http://www.craftideas.info/html/glass_jar.html

It is meant to hold a votive candle….but you wouldn’t have to have a candle in it. OR…you could use the flameless (battery operated) ones.

~ Another idea is to get cheap frames (from a Dollar Store) and arrange some pictures of you and your fiance.

When is the wedding?

~ If it is in the summer or fall…..just get some nice wicker baskets (from a dollar store)….paint them if you want….and arrange some fruit (summer ~ lemons; oranges; limes) or (fall ~ different colored apples…red & green). This is easy and inexpensive.

Hope this gives you some options. Good luck!
